Hello, my lovely people!
What a whirlwind this week has been, and it looks like October will be just as eventful. I wanted to update you on a major development in international recruitment for care and support roles. The recruitment of international healthcare assistants, support workers, and carers has been temporarily put on hold. I’ve covered more details in my latest video, so make sure to check it out when you can.
Please take the time to watch this video!
Implications of the Change:
This shift will have significant repercussions across the broader recruitment landscape. Some candidates—nurses, radiographers, and doctors—were using the care route to enter the UK, sidestepping the official guidelines set by their professional boards. This change closes off that option, making the situation more challenging for them.
Funding Updates and Job Opportunities:
The government has redirected funds to local authorities in England only. Next week, I'll provide details on which councils received these funds and how much each was allocated. This will help you identify areas where there may be more job opportunities, although relocation might be necessary for some.
Sponsorship and Compliance:
For those of you already in the UK, it’s crucial to secure a new sponsorship as soon as possible. The government plans to remove many sponsor licences, and hundreds of care homes, private hospitals, and other institutions are currently under investigation. Those unable to secure a new sponsor within 60 days may face the unfortunate reality of having to leave the country, and sadly, this has already happened to some candidates.
If you entered the UK via the care route without relevant experience, be prepared to justify your situation. Those lacking experience may face challenges in securing new sponsorship. Even those with experience might find it difficult to switch to a new sponsor, so it’s critical to stay informed and act quickly.
Support from Local Councils:
In the coming weeks, the government plans to set up mailboxes in councils where they’ve allocated new budgets. This is meant to help eligible candidates find new sponsors more easily. However, competition will be fierce, especially with the ongoing efforts to limit immigration.
Take Action:
- Ensure your CV and cover letter are exceptional. This is no time to leave things to chance.
- Stay aware of your own visa status, and keep yourself up-to-date with changes.
- Remain informed about your company’s sponsorship status and any relevant news.
