Hello, my lovely people!
To the Nurses, Doctors, Pharmacists, and Allied Health Professionals,
I’ve said this before, and I will keep saying it: if you’ve studied hard to earn your degree or diploma and dedicated your career to your profession, why would you settle for working in a role that does not reflect your qualifications?
Recently, I’ve seen opportunities encouraging nurses who have not cleared their IELTS or OET exams to come to the U.K. to work as carers or support workers. Let me be clear—I do not encourage or support this approach.
Why? Because shortcuts never work.
If your goal is to work in the U.K. as a registered nurse, midwife, mental health professional, radiographer, biomedical scientist, occupational therapist, anesthetic practitioner, or other healthcare professional, you must meet the required standards. This means passing IELTS or OET (or HCPC requirements for certain professions).
If you don’t meet these requirements:
- Retake the IELTS or try OET—it may be better suited to your skills.
- For HCPC registration, if you lack a degree or NARIC eligibility, take the necessary steps, including sitting for IELTS.
I understand the temptation to take a shortcut, but here’s the reality:
- Working as a carer or support worker may feel like progress, but it often becomes a dead end.
- You may find yourself too busy to prepare for your exams. Time will slip away, and before you know it, you’ve been out of practice as a nurse or health professional for over two years—making it harder to secure a role in your field.
I’ve seen this happen far too often. Please trust the process. Be patient.
The U.K. needs skilled professionals like you, but the journey requires dedication and persistence.
To maximize your chances of success:
- Ensure your CV is tailored to highlight your skills and experience.
- Write a strong NHS cover letter to stand out during applications.
- Prepare thoroughly for your exams and interviews.
