The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) recognizes a range of qualifications for registration, including Diplomas, and Degrees—it's not just limited to university degrees!
The key is that your qualification must be from a program approved by the HCPC, ensuring it meets their standards of proficiency.
The HCPC currently regulates 15 professions. Each profession may have different qualification pathways, but all lead to the same goal—ensuring safe, high-quality care.
Remember, it’s not just about education; you’ll also need to prove your character, health, and language proficiency to practice safely. Keep learning and growing with your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) too!
Here is a list of the 15 professions that the HCPC currently recognizes:
- Arts Therapists (Art, Drama, Music Therapists)
- Biomedical Scientists
- Chiropodists / Podiatrists
- Clinical Scientists
- Dietitians
- Hearing Aid Dispensers
- Occupational Therapists
- Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs)
- Orthoptists
- Paramedics
- Physiotherapists
- Practitioner Psychologists
- Prosthetists / Orthotists
- Radiographers (Diagnostic and Therapeutic)
- Speech and Language Therapists
Each profession has its own set of educational and professional standards that you must meet to gain registration. After qualifying, professionals need to renew their HCPC registration every two years to maintain their license to practice.
